TUTONG

The Fisheries Department held a roadshow on maritime safety yesterday, which was attended by heads of villages and representatives of the fishing community in the Tutong District.

Present as the guest of honour was Awang Haji Haizul Rizal bin Haji Yahya, the Acting Assistant Tutong District Officer.

The roadshow consisted of a series of briefings on maritime security issues and illegal fishing practices conducted by Awang Mohammad Irwan bin Haji Mohammad Noor, a Fisheries Officer, and Awang Muhd Haji Azmin bin Matlimin from the Brunei Methanol Company (BMC).

Later, a question-and-answer session was held and chaired by Dayang Ranimah binti Haji Abdul Wahab, the Acting Director of Fisheries.

Aside from raising public awareness on maritime rules and regulations, the roadshow was also intended as a forum for interaction between maritime security agencies, private stakeholders and the fishing communities of Brunei Darussalam.

For more details, particularly on the registration and licensing of catch, visit the Licensing Division of Muara Fish Landing Complex at Simpang 28753, Camping Serasa or contact 7297771.
