The existing communication system and how it affects the Islamic economy and Fiqh Muamalat needs to be examined.
This was stated by Haji Muhammad Shukri bin Haji Ahmad, Syariah Chief Advisor of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), yesterday in his presentation of a paper titled 'Roles of communications toward the development of Islamic economy', during the Knowledge Convention held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
The presentation was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, Minister of Communications.
The presentation touched on the several factors to be considered in relation to the Islamic economy and the communication industry.
"Present communication system components and requirements are currently associated with the transport and info-communication technology (ICT) formed through infrastructure, laws and regulations," he said in his presentation.
"There are some basic guidelines that have been adopted in Islamic economics, especially in the Islamic finance industry.
"It became a guide in determining what products and services comply with the Islamic legal maxim before being introduced to the market. But undoubtedly, the issues and challenges that include contract and financial transactions should always be steady and forward technology," he added.
Haji Muhammad Shukri also said, "International practices, particularly in Islamic finance, have provided a framework or guidelines in the development of Islamic economics to comply with Syariah law while keeping parallel with the current economic boom through large-scale industries such as the transport and communication industry."
