Local Man Jailed & Fined for Auto Theft, False Statement

 August 26th, 2016  |  09:35 AM  |   1490 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Magistrate's Court yesterday sentenced a thirty-six-year-old local man to eight months' jail and a fine of B$1,500 or an additional two months' jail in default.

Muhammad Dzulfadli bin Kafli pleaded guilty last Tuesday to auto theft, giving false statement to police and switching a car's registration plate.

He stole a car from Kampong Sabun, Muara at midnight on July 26, 2016.

The car owner lodged a report which led to the arrest of the defendant by the police.

During investigations, the defendant lied by saying that he was helping a friend to move the car.

Police conducted inyestigations on the defendant's friend and later realised it was a lie by the defendant.

The defendant then stole a car from Kampong Serasa on the morning of July 26, 2016 and changed its number plate to avoid being detected.

The car owner lodged a police report which led to the defendant's arrest and recovery of the car.
