LAWAS, SARAWAK

A businessman was robbed of his valuables by two masked men armed with samurai, parang and wood, who intercepted him at KM6, Trusan Road at 7pm on Wednesday.

Lawas district police chief DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said among the valuables which were inside the victim’s bag were RM2,000, a handphone, credit card, ATM card and driving licence.

According to him, upon notified by the victim, police sprang into action and found that the vehicle used by the suspects had skidded some two kilometres from where the robbery occurred.

“The suspects escaped into the forest and police mounted search and caught one of them at 11.30pm. We will continue to search for the other suspect,” he said yesterday.

Abang Zainal said the detained suspect, 36, of Dusun origin had criminal records in Sabah.

Police also confiscated the car used by the suspects, sharp weapons and mask used in the robbery. The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
