Two foreigners were sentenced to imprisonment for offences under the Excise Order 2006.

 

39-year-old Indonesian, Andrik Setiawan, pleaded guilty of possessing 115 cartons and 2 packs of cigarettes of various brands as well as sales proceeds amounting 350 dollars. The defendant was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment, began on 29th July, for failing to settle a fine of 89,500 dollars. All contraband were seized and the cash was handed over to the government.

 

Meanwhile, a woman, aged 43, from the Philippines, Gemma Sotto Brigola pleaded guilty of possessing 96 packs of cigarettes and 38 bottles of alcoholic drinks. The defendant was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment, began on 29th July, for failing to settle a fine of 20,850 dollars. All contraband were seized to be destroyed.
