TOKYO

British cyclist Bethany Shriever edged two-time Olympic champion Mariana Pajon of Colombia to win women's BMX racing gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games here on Friday.

The 22-year-old was in perfect form winning all three runs in her heat in the semifinals and clocked 44.358 seconds in the final to win her maiden Olympic gold.

Pajon, who finished 0.9 seconds behind, missed her chance to become the historic first triple Olympic champion in BMX racing.

World silver medalist of 2018, Merel Smulders of the Netherlands, took the bronze in 44.721.
