Modes of Technological Communication Helps Contribute to Islamic Civilisation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The field of communication technology is a source of inspiration and medium of sovereignty and prosperity of the global society. Arabs, from their experiences and research, have found that communication technology occurs in two circumstances; physical and non physical. The physical aspect occurs through communication and land transportation using vehicles or livestock such as camels and horses, or by the sea through vessels for the purpose of trading, working, preaching and to establish diplomatic relations with foreign countries.

The matter was elaborated by Professor Mahayudddin bin Haji Yahaya, Head of Post-Graduate Programme, Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Civilisation at the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif All at the second day of the Knowledge Convention yesterday.

He added that, in the non physical aspect of communication, it occurs through various trans-discipline or integrated knowledge. Both these modes of communications have hugely contributed towards Islamic civilisation as well as world civilisation.

The impact of cohesion between 'ulum naqliyah' (Syariah) with 'ulum qliyyah' (science and technology) has led to an explosion of information communication technology (ICT) that is largely used by the masses. From this, he noted that with the development of science and technology, there has been a wave of social transformation globally.

The social transformation that has played a role in today's civilisation has changed the patterns of human lifestyles in which it has shifted from traditional living to modern.

In his presentation: Professor Mahayuddin also discussed on how Islamic civilisations had largely contributed in the world of communication in which it generated the integration of Ummah (society).

He explained that relative communication was pioneered by Islamic explorers who mostly emphasised on Islamic values according to Syariah, Islamic norms and its function in preserving life and quality values of the people.

These Islamic explorers, although having different job backgrounds, always came up with the same ideas that were to integrate cooperation through communication with the society in order to further diversify Islamic teachings.
