The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Bintulu regional office detained 442 logs of various sizes and species with an estimated volume of 992 cubic metres in Sungai Semanuk, Tatau following enforcement activities which ended on Monday (Aug 22).

An enforcement team based at the SFC One-Stop Compliance Centre (OSCC) in Teluk Batu first detected suspicious felling activities near a timber licence area there.

“SFC is wary of thieves using or hiding behind short-term timber licences as fronts for their illegal logging operations,” said an SFC statement yesterday.

“We will always be on the lookout for such operations, this being one of our enforcement strategies to curtail illegal logging.”

A police report was lodged at the Bintulu police station on Monday.

The case was handed over to the relevant authorities yesterday for further investigation.
