The relevant authorities should take necessary steps to prohibit Pokémon GO, if the game poses a threat to public safety, said Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti, during his special talk yesterday at the Knowledge Convention 2016.
"Precautionary measures should be taken, to prevent both the country and community from the game's negative consequences," he said.
He also mentioned the possible risks associated with Pokemon GO, including causing a security breach by trespassing, and driving while playing.
Since its worldwide release on July 6, the augmented reality game from Niantic has sparked controversy with its lack of data privacy, in addition to reports of distracted driving, job losses and injuries.
