BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Religious enforcement officers recently arrested a local man for wearing women's clothes and improper conduct in a public area, during a joint operation codenamed 'Sepadu Cegah Jenayah', with the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

The man is being detained, pending further investigation under Section 198 (1) of the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013.

If found guilty, he faces a fine of B$1,000, or three months of imprisonment, or both.

During the joint operation, a total of 26 personnel from the RBPF and religious authorities targeted three key areas in the capital, namely the Tamu Kianggeh, the Bumiputra Commercial Building and the Bus Terminal.

The combined effort was aimed at fostering cooperation among local enforcement agencies, while countering criminal or unlawful activities.
