Prime Minister urges Luang Prabang to fulfill its development targets

The Prime Minister has urged the authorities of Luang Prabang Province to recognize the significance of translating into reality the targets set at the 10th National Congress of the Party as well as the development plans of the province.
Talking with senior officials of the province on Aug 6, the premier urged local authorities to focus on improving governance mechanisms while promoting their own accountability and dedication to the interests of people.
He also urged local authorities at provincial, district and village levels to extend assistance to farmers currently suffering from locust infestations.
The Prime Minister also praised the achievements made by the authorities and people of Luang Prabang Province over the past years, especially the constant economic growth in the province.
Governor of Luang Prabang Khamkhanh Chanthavisouk said that over the past nine months the province has recorded constant economic growth of 8.6% with a gross domestic product GDP in the province reaching 6.045 trillion kip.
The province also made significant progress in rural development and reducing poverty.
Across the province, there are 169 poor villages. This number represents about 22.4% of all villages. The number of poor families has declined to 4,134 families representing 5.3% of total families in the province.
The net enrolment rate in the province has reached 98.4%.
