World Cup Leader Vlhova Scores First Career Super G Podium

BRATISLAVA

After almost a month without a podium finish in the 2020-21 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, overall points leader Petra Vlhova of Slovakia finished second in the Super G event in the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Monday, 0.28 seconds behind winner Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland.

In the second Super G race in Ga-Pa that had been postponed due to thick fog in the lower section of the track on Sunday, Vlhova improved on her fourth place at the Italian resort of La Thuille a year ago - her best Super G result ever - and stepped onto her 41st career podium.

"I was close to a podium in the previous Super G on Saturday. This time, I went full-on. I knew how to master the individual sections and I did almost everything right. There were some minor mistakes, but I would be nitpicking. I felt good and let my skis take me down. I am very happy about the second place," said a satisfied Vlhova after the finish.

Compared to Saturday, where Vlhova had finished tenth, the track was quicker and the gates more open on Monday. Gut-Behrami dominated from the beginning and only Vlhova came close, ahead of the upcoming World Championship in the Italian resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo. 29-year-old Gut-Behrami won her fourth consecutive Super G, achieving her 30th overall World Cup victory.

Vlhova remains top of the overall World Cup standings, leading Gut-Behrami by 42 points.

Super G Results World Cup in Ga-Pa:

Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland) 1:17.37

Petra Vlhova (Slovakia) +0.28s

Tamara Tippler (Austria) +0.74s

Overall FIS World Cup standings:

Petra Vlhova (Slovakia) - 989 points

Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland) - 947 points

Michelle Gisin (Switzerland) - 807 points
