BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

A two-day Peer Guidance Group (PRS) basic course was held for cluster 3 PRS students from the Berakas Secondary School yesterday at the school's Anggerek Hall.

The course was held by the Counselling and Career Guidance Section, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education with help from the school's Cluster 3 counsellors.

The event began with the registration of participants, the national anthem, recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa, followed by the PRS oath.

Cikgu Pengiran Hajah Fatriah binti Pengiran Haji Bujang then facilitated the ice breaking session with the students.

During the course, the students were educated on the definition of PRS, interpersonal skills, basic counselling skills, basic help skills, Dyad and Triad, carrying out the PRS programme in school, and in-group training.

The objective of the course is to uphold the National Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21); to train students to work in groups; and to build a well trained PRS team offering assistance to peers.

The course also prepares the students in the basics of interacting effectively with peers, to encourage good personality and basic leadership, and to produce students who possess essential identity.

The PRS programme was prepared to assist students in handling personal and academic problems.

PRS is an important support service in the school guidance and counselling services.

The course was part of the Peer Guidance Group (PRS) basic course for secondary schools and colleges in Brunei Darussalam 2016.
