Laos Commits To Further Implement AEC Blueprint 2025

LAOS

Laos has committed to continue implementing the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025 with other member states.

The statement was made by Minister of Industry and Commerce Khemmany Pholsena at the 48th ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting (AEM 48) which opened in Vientiane on Aug 3 along with related meetings.

“ASEAN should serve as a driving force for realizing the goals of the AEC Blueprint 2025,” said Minister Khemmany.

“The important responsibility of ensuring that necessary frameworks are in place for the effective implementation of the Community Blueprint 2025 lies with us and we are able to do so only with unwavering commitments of all ASEAN member states and support from our dialogues partners,” Mrs Khemmany continued.

The ASEAN economic integration agenda complements the deepening of integration with external parties, especially its dialogue partners.

ASEAN leaders envision in the AEC Blueprint 2025 that the bloc will remain committed to completing the unfinished agenda of the AEC Blueprint 2015 as a matter of priority.

ASEAN recently endorsed the eight priority deliverables of the Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship under the economic pillar.

The priorities cover critical areas of trade facilitation, food safety, access to finance, and creating an enabling environment for micro, small and medium enterprises.  Also included are tourism, Special Economic Zone development and collaboration, as well as narrowing the development gap among ASEAN member states.

The meeting provides ASEAN economic ministers and their counterparts from dialogue partner countries the opportunity to discuss and consider the endorsement of work done by senior officials and related bodies.

Consultations with dialogue partners and issues of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership will also be extensively discussed.
