The participation of Brunei athletes, Mohd Fakhri bin Ismail and Maizurah binti Abdul Rahim, at the Olympic Games was to a degree made possible through the sponsorship of the well-established American sportswear and accessories company, Under Armour (UA).

Yesterday, a ceremony was held at the track and fleld of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, during which UA Brunei Manager Huu Lim presented the UA sponsorship to both athletes.

Also present to witness the ceremony was Kifli bin Haji Jaafar, the President of Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation,Along with other executive members of the federation.

Mohd Fakhri will compete in the men's 100-metre event, while Maizurah will participate in the women's 200-metre at the Olympic Games.

Addressing those present at the ceremony, Lim said, "The sponsorship of UA sportswear is meant to empower the local fitness community and to make sure that Brunei's athletes are properly geared up."

He also noted that UA delivers innovation in its sports clothing to help athletes feel more comfortable and perform better.

In an interview, Kifli bin Haji Jaafar expressed his gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Haji SufriBolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), for giving both Mohd Fakhri and Maizurah the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games.

He also conveyed his appreciation to UA for supporting the athletes and providing them with motivation to work hard.

His Royal Highness also encouraged more private companies to come forward in support of local athletes.

On Brunei's target for the 31st Olympic Games, he said, "I hope that our athletes will break the national record, or their personal record, on the world stage. This will be a great achievement, not only for the athletes, but also for the country."
