SHANGHAI

A film retrospective of world-renowned Italian directors is being held in Shanghai to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Italy diplomatic ties.

Launched by the Shanghai Art Film Federation Thursday, the exhibition will last until Nov. 1, with nine films by four Italian film masters -- Federico Fellini, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Bernardo Bertolucci and Vittorio De Sica -- being screened.

To commemorate Fellini's 100th birth anniversary, his films, including Lo sceicco bianco (The white sheik) and Le notti di Cabiria (Nights of Cabiria), will be shown in 4K resolution.

"I hope this retrospective will contribute to friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two peoples," said Michele Cecchi, Italy's Consul General in Shanghai, expressing his gratitude to the film federation for the "wonderful" and "meaningful" initiative.

Cecchi added that the consulate will hold other cultural activities this year to promote bilateral people-to-people exchanges.
