The Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Global Affairs) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Dr. Joyce Teo Siew Yean yesterday noted that holding international symposium enables knowledge transfer between industry and academia, and also opens up the opportunity for researcher's and students of UBD to cross learn and collaborate on research projects.
She was speaking at the opening of the International Proteomics Symposium titled 'Immunome & Proteomics: From Research to Clinical Practice' at the Institute of Health Sciences, UBD.
The symposium is conducted in cooperation with Sengenics, a genomics- and proteomics-based research and diagnostics services company. Vast possibilities can be explored with such company using their cutting-edge technology.
She also believed that with UBD being chosen to hold this landmark event co-hosted by Middle East Molecular Biology Sources (MEMBS), which is a prestigious international scientific conference, Brunei Darussalam could be an excellent choice for future international conferences as will.
This is the first time the nation is hosting the three-day event, organised by Sengenics in collaboration with UBD and King Saud bin Abdul Aziz University.
The symposium has attracted internationally renowned experts from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Middle East and speakers from Asia.
Meanwhile, Dr. Awang Arif Anwar, Executive Director of Sengenics Brunei Darussalam said research could be translated into economic and commercial benefits for Brunei, and something that can be applied beyond pure research.
Many students here are considering careers and the importance of biotechnology especially in the field of immunome and proteomics.
