Laos, New Zealand Launch Fight Against Animal Foot-And-Mouth Disease

The Government of New Zealand has decided to grant financial assistance for a new programme against animal (Office International des Epizooties) OIE or World Organization for Animal Health’s (Foot and MouthDisease) FMD project titled the DLF (Department of Livestock and Fisheries) Lao PDR FMD Control Project.
The financial assistance of US$3.1 million was granted under the support of the New Zealand programme, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand.
The money will be used for the implementation of the OIE-DLF Lao PDR Foot-and-mouth disease Control Project over the next four years 2016-2020 to fight against the disease in the provinces of Savannakhet, Champassak and Xieng Khuang.
The OIE-DLF Lao PDR FMD Control Project will be jointly administered by the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (DLF) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos and the World Animal Health Organization (Office International des Epizooties-OIE).
One of the project launching ceremonies was held on July 26 in Vientiane Capital in the presence of Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Lien Thikeo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Murray McCully, the Ambassador of New Zealand to the ASEAN Secretariat Stephanie Lee, Director General of the Department Livestock and Fisheries SomphanChanphenxay, and representatives of relevant sectors under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos.
