Seamless connectivity between Kuching, Kota Kinabalu & Bandar Seri Begawan

Bandar Seri Begawan - Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) and MASwings have entered into an agreement to code share on flights between Kota Kinabalu and Bandar Seri Begawan, as well as between Kuching and Bandar Seri Begawan, from July 1, 2013 onwards.

This is the first code-share cooperation for MASwings since it took to the skies five years ago.

Under the agreement, MASwings will add its 'MH' code to RB-operated flights serving Kota Kinabalu from Bandar Seri Begawan, and vice versa.

On a reciprocal basis, RB will add its 'BI' code to MASwings-operated flights serving Bandar Seri Begawan from Kuching operating four-times weekly services.

MASwings Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Captain Mohd Nawawi Hj Awang, said, "We are delighted to expand our partnership with RB to jointly operate the two most important international BIMP-EAGA sectors which are Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei and Kota Kinabalu and Kuching in Malaysia."

After the signing ceremony in Kota Kinabalu, Datuk Captian Mohd Nawawi said MASwings is confident that RB's current 15-times weekly services will provide sufficient capacity between Sabah and Brunei to meet existing and future demand from travellers.

"Through the partnership and combined resources, both carriers can further grow the market by providing customers with better services and connectivity. This partnership will benefit both airlines, customers and the industry as a whole," he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines, MASwings' parent company has been code sharing with RB between Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuala Lumpur since 2004 and both carriers have reaped the benefits of a successful partnership.

By entering into a code-share cooperation with RB, not only will MASwings improve its product into Bandar Seri Begawan, it will also complement the existing MAS-RB partnership. This partnership will definitely enhance the synergies amongst the three partners.

MASwings recorded an average of between 90 and 94 per cent on its on-time performance and carried more than 1.5 million passengers a year. This year, MASwings has expanded its international route to Balikpapan, Indonesia and is planning to operate into Puerto Princesa, Palawan, the Philippines before the end of the year.

RB's Chief Commercial and Planning Officer, Karam Chand said, "RB is extremely delighted with the enhancements on our ties with Malaysia.

"We have just recently inaugurated our double daily services to Kuala Lumpur, and now with the penning of this code-share agreement with MASwings. We look forward to strengthening the partnership not just between the two carriers, but also between the two nations."

This partnership is yet another milestone that RB has achieved since it started it rebranding journey in October 2012. RB's rebranding concludes with the entry into service of their Boeing 787 Dreamliners that are expected to arrive at the end of September 2013, making RB the first airline in the region to fly the modern aircraft.

Passengers on this code-share agreement will get the chance to have the Dreamliner experience as RB will be operating the B787 on its regional routes prior to operating them on its long-haul routes. RB has also been awarded as the "Best Foreign Airline" by Sabah Tourism as well as "Best Economy Airlines - Asia" by Business Destination, and RB looks forward to further enhancing its services to serve customers' needs.
