how can u say that "there is no point going to school when infection can happen in seconds. Losing a child to a pandemic flu is nothing compared to missing some lessons at school"???

if the school is close, its not gonna be for one or two days, it will gonna be a few weeks, because what's the point closing the school for only a few days. so its not 'missing some lesson' its missing few a few hundred our of studying. and most of the student havent finish their syllabus! especially to those who will sit for a big exam at the end of this year.. YOU should think wisely. ur children can just wear mask and NOT get infected!!

It amazes me how people view this extension of holidays. I for one agree that the reopening of school be delayed for a week to make sure that the current pandemic be maintained under control and so that necessary preventive measure to be supplied for every school. But if the holidays are spent by the children by going to the malls and 'lepak' with friends (which is what most the children have been doing for the past 2 weeks anyways), what use is that? The H1N1 virus can spread no matter where you are, not just in school. So, are you prepared to stay home for the entire reminder of your school holidays?

And P.s. those comment stating you're too young too die... Don't be naive. Death is upon us no matter how young or old we are.

Recommendation from CDC: Schools do not need to close unless they have large clusters of cases that are affecting school functioning. Schools that closed based on previous recommendations, such as if they had a single confirmed case or probable case, can now likely reopen. - Optimist

i definitely hope the government will extend the school holiday for atleast 3 days. because, i believe health is very important. and oh, please do not extend it too long, a week is enough, i think. i need to study for my AS exam, i dont want to rush learning the topics when school reopen. hmmmm, get me? - DkAzymah92

I agree with Ali.
just extend it. the country needs to calm down and think about this. Give anyone with symptoms who went to the hospital to get a check up some cash. more people will go to the hospital. I hope.
And just wearing masks wont stop the flu from spreading. it will still spread, but at a lower rate.

Health>studies
I STRONGLY agree that school holidays should be extended, in my opinion.

"The government have to provide pOkeball to all people so that the people can catch the most dangerous animal example pig, pikachu, tapir, babi hutan and Bulbasur. the important thing!!
All of us know study is very important..but this A(H1N1)is a very serious problem. This is dangerous.wearing a mask can't solve the problem nor prevent us from being infected. Extending the holiday untill this problem is under control is the best way.I'm not trying to take advantage but as i told u guys this is a serious matter..I'm too young to die!!!!!!!!!!! We all children just started our lives, we still got a long way to go, so pls... Why should we risk our lives for studying? Even though we have to study, but we must not risk our lives just only for studying, is it even worth it?>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:( Haiz............... you guys just won't get it, by the way,you guys doesn't even know our feelings............... I'm not trying to do anything but I'm only eleven years old, i am really toooooooooooooooooooooooo young to die? I'm sorry for saying this but it is really URGENT. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( don't be angry at me but it is really urgent. - Sharon Tan Tze Wei

On one hand, I am happy to see a lot of students (or one very dedicated student) logging on to the net and reading about local news and contributing to discussion. In English no less. On the other hand, it saddens me to see that students dont want to go back to school, using H1N1 as an excuse to extend their holiday

On topic, there is no need to extend the holiday at all. H1N1 is exactly the same as the normal flu, it is by no means any more dangerous than the normal flu. Read http://www.childrensmemorial.org/depts/infectious/swine-flu.aspx for example. It is one of MANY websites that describe H1N1 symptoms. Knowledge is power, people. Read up and chillax. Its not SARS. Its the flu. - Kyon

Well, we all know that school has many people, hundreds of students and teachers. according to world health organization, The new influenza A(H1N1) appears to be as contagious as seasonal influenza, and is spreading fast particularly among young people (from ages 10 to 45). The severity of the disease ranges from very mild symptoms to severe illnesses that can result in death.

If one student or teacher is infected with H1N1, he/she may infect other people in school and it keeps spreading to their homes. Do the math, 1 class has 40 students. What if there were 20 students in that class that got infected. 20 families will be quarantined. Keep that in mind.

Thank you for reading,

;D - student

yeah i truly agree with proactive. why risk ur children's life for lessons? and for the lessons, the school can have extra classes for the students to cover up once the virus is gone right?"

Actually you are just lazy to go to school, perhaps. If you are determined to study for the sake of your future, then you will sacrifice all out, even your own life. Bear in mind that, "A book holds a house of gold", if you understand what i meant. - Low-profiler

honestly, WE DONT NEED THE HOLIDAY.
taking proper precautions would help prevent this. and taking the flu jab only prevents seasonal flu. and makes you prepared to get whatever. its another thing that IF YOU GET IT. its your fate and you couldn't do nothing about it except get treated at an early stage. this is also a chance for the governement and private schools to renovate the schools to make it clean. toilets redone! especially the toilets and the classrooms to prevent god knows what else in the future. TAKE PRECAUTION. WEAR A MASK. TAKE A FLU JAB.
dont just ask for the holidays cause you want it, or cause you're too lazy or what so ever.
yes, health is important. SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT!

I think the best precaution is to put extra effort on keeping oneself always clean and minimize social gathering during these period of time if he/she feels have symptoms of flu. Office and Schools should also be equipped or supply with mask or disinfection gel or fluid or whatever appropriate to minimize cause of infection. No holidays needed if those above are in place. - Ngian

actually the injection for vaccination that the MOH gave us is only effective against seasonal flu...its not for H1N1 officially...and its a bit funny that most of the comments want to extend their school holidays...I also think its a wise idea for the moment...just for a precaution. If not, why not us, the people of Brunei start wearing mask just for a safety precaution? - Yes Man
