Housewives And Retirees Being Wooed To Work In Senior Care

Singapore: Housewives and retirees are being eyed by the Government to help care for the elderly, Minister of State for Social and Family Development, Madam Halimah Yacob, said today.

It is looking at how to divide the work at senior care centres and senior activity centres for these two groups to pitch in, instead of relying solely on full-time elder-care workers, she added.

Their potential help is on top of the ministry's move to upgrade skills of health-care professionals and use more assisted technology.

Madam Halimah made the point in her reply to Nominated MP Mary Liew, on how her ministry plans to attract more locals to work as senior care associates.
