And we're in good company: Kate Middleton recently sported a plaid coat as she left the hospital following her pregnancy announcement, and when she visited her former prep school, St. Andrew's. Plaid is warm, classic, and incredibly chic.

From argyle to tartan, almost all types of plaid are our go-to patterns in the winter months, especially around the holidays. Designers everywhere embrace plaid by infusing fun and unexpected colors into the pattern (and vice versa, adding plaid to fun and unexpected items, like underwear), as well as sticking to staple pieces and color palettes; we love them all.
