Brunei Minister of Home Affairs YB Pehin Dato Haji Badaruddin Othman and his wife Datin Hajah Maimoonah Omar visited Singapore from 7 to 10 September 2012 at the invitation of Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli. While in Singapore, Pehin Badaruddin and Datin Maimoonah attended the Hari Raya Open Houses of SMS Masagos at Tampines West Community Club and the Hari Raya Dinner of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean at Pasir Ris Elias Community Club. During the visit, Pehin Badaruddin also met with Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister In Charge of Muslim Affairs (and Minister of Information, Communication and the Arts) as well as Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram, the Mufti of Singapore.
Pehin and Datin visited the Malay Heritage Centre in Singapore which was re-opened by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 1 September 2012. The Centre aims to provide visitors with a better understanding of the Malay community in Singapore as well as how the community has progressed and contributed to the development of Singapore. It will also be an important platform in helping Singaporeans better appreciate our multi-cultural heritage, shared traditions and ethnic cohesion.
Pehin Badaruddin's visit is a reflection of the strong and deep ties that Singapore and Brunei share.
