The Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) yesterday ended its 3 day science teacher's workshop. The ‘science show and build your own mini exhibition' workshop was conducted by Dr Graham Walker the Director of Science Showoffs, Australian National University especially for 40 science teachers from the primary to the lower secondary level including OGDC's science communicators.

OGDC invited the science show expert with a sole reason of helping the educators to enhance their delivery of science to an audience especially children. This workshop focuses more on teaching science in an interactive and fun manner using the key components namely humor, enthusiasm and student's participation.

In the course, the teachers explored the methodology of developing a structured performance on the subject of science and this includes demonstrations. The teachers were given an opportunity to explore and replicate the best science demonstrations simultaneously creating new ways in presenting science to their students in a very effective and interactive manner that will facilitate interest, understanding and life-long learning.

According to Sylvia Bernardette Buma, Sungai Liang Primary School, the workshop was highly interactive and fun. She was overwhelmed with the number of ideas and methods they learned from Dr Graham as well as the other teachers.

DkHjh Mas Joliwanebte Pg Hj Tejudin from the Curriculum Development Department, Ministry of Education mentioned that the workshop was indeed an excellent initiative that OGDC has undertaken and hopes that there will be more programs like this between the Ministry of Education and OGDC to enhance further the teaching skills and knowledge of teachers.

Stephanie S. Sekhon, Exhibition and Education Coordinator of OGDC commented that the course was very informative and outstanding. They were clarified on the difference in teaching in a classroom and in a science centre.
