Pick-Up Truck With Nine Petrol Tanks Seized
Padang Besar - Does a pick-up truck need nine petrol tanks?
The Anti-Smuggling Unit (UPP) here yesterday confiscated one, worth some RM50,000, which had nine petrol tanks believed to be used to smuggle petrol to Thailand.
Perlis UPP Commander DSP Zakaria Abdul Rahman said the vehicle was stopped at 11.20am at a roadblock at KM9.9 Jalan Kaki Bukit-Wang Kelian near here after it was observed to be in a suspicious condition.
Upon inspection, the truck was found to have additional eight petrol tanks. Together with the truck's existing tank, they could store about 1,000 litres of petrol, worth some RM1,800.
Zakaria added that a local man, aged 49 years, who was driving the Thai-registered Toyata Hilux truck was detained to help investigations.
Initial investigations revealed the man obtained the fuel from petrol stations around Padang Besar to smuggle to Thailand.
