Alor Setar: The High Court yesterday sentenced a parking attendant to death by hanging after finding him guilty of murdering a man three years ago.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Zakiah Kassim handed down the decision against K. Marimuthu, 37, who was charged with the murder of Md Rashid Mahamud, 48, at about 5 pm on Aug 28, 2008.
Marimuthu had shot Md Rashid on the gravel road leading to the oil palm plantation of OSK Properties Sdn Bhd near the Econsave Supermarket in Jalan Kuala Ketil, Sungai Petani.
Zakiah said Marimuthu's testimony was not supported by any of the defence witnesses to raise a reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.
"The key prosecution witnesses had told the court of seeing the accused shoot the victim from a distance of 20 feet. The accused's statement that he did not remember where he was at the time of the incident is dismissed by the court," she said.
DPP Wan Nor Hasnita Wan Daud prosecuted in the case while Marimuthu was represented by counsel Burhanudeen Abdul Wahid.
