Sandakan: Two-year-old Hadziq Hassan who went missing since November 10 has been found dead. The little boy's remains were found nearly three kilometres from Kampung Garinono near Mile 25 Jalan Labuk on Wednesday.

Workers doing land surveying in the area came across the remains next to a pond when they went to check on the source of a foul smell at about 4am on November 14.

They alerted the police on the discovery.

Based on the condition of the remains, the boy was believed to have been dead for more than 72 hours and could only be identified from the clothes he was wearing.

Police later sent the body to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for a post-mortem.

Sandakan police chief, ACP Rowell Marong yesterday confirmed the discovery of the boy's remains and said they would wait for the post-mortem report.

Hadziq was brought by his parents to their relative's house in Kampung Garinono for a wedding feast on Nov 10.

The parents were helping out in the preparations for the occasion when the boy went missing between 11am to 12pm on the same day.

Police with the assistance of villagers mounted a search operation when they were notified of the boy's disappearance.

Hadziq lived with his family in Kampung Kenangan Manis off Mile 12 Jalan Labuk.

So far foul play has been ruled out.
