Kuala Lumpur: With the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People's Uprising Rally) drawing closer, its organiser Pakatan Rakyat has yet to secure Stadium Merdeka as the venue - today, it was snubbed by the management of the premises.
PAS Youth secretary Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil (left), who led a delegation to the management's office in Kuala Lumpur, said Pakatan has been trying to secure the use of the historic venue since two weeks ago, but to no avail.
He said the secretariat had sent a letter to the Merdeka Heritage Trust on Dec 26 last year, requesting the use of the stadium. This was in addition to phone calls to the office.
As there was no response, the Pakatan delegation turned up this afternoon at the doorstep of the management's headquarters in Menara PNB, Kuala Lumpur.
However, security personnel barred the representatives from meeting the management, explaining that they were "in a meeting".
Frustrated by more than an hour of waiting, PKR Youth secretary Julailey Jemadi (right) told reporters that he is disappointed with the management.
"It is sad that their treatment of us does not reflect Malaysian culture," he said.
He claimed that Pakatan had communicated with the management to arrange a meeting today, but the management did not turn up.
However, secretary of the Pakatan secretariat Adib Ishar told Malaysiakini that Pakatan only called the management today, but fell into no response.
Asked on the next move, Julailey said that Pakatan's top leadership will decide on a meeting at PKR headquarters tomorrow.
Nevertheless, he hoped that the rally could be held at the stadium as planned, while Khairul Faizi further added, "our first, second and third choice remained Stadium Merdeka!"--Courtesy of Malaysiakini
