Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association revealed at a press conference yesterday held at Kingston Beverage and Creamery Sdn Bhd that they will be hosting the Tug-of-War Asia Level Championship from Nov 23-26 in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The tournament will be held at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex, and will be the first international standard tug-of-war tournament to be held in the Sultanate.

Present at the press conference was the President of the Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association, Pg Hj Jadid Omar Ali, who disclosed the details of the tournament.

There will be a Men's and Women's category, the latter of which the host nation will not be participating.

A total of 12 teams have been invited to participate; Five local teams, four from Malaysia, two from Singapore and one from Chinese Taipei, a nation which has played a crucial role in the development of the sport in Brunei, having provided qualified coaches to train the local teams as well as referees for tournaments.

The two days which have been delegated for competition are Nov 24, during which the opening ceremony will take place, and Nov 25, which will draw to a close with the prize presentation.

A total of $10,000 will be up for grabs during the tournament, whilst spectators will also have the chance to win a lucky draw like no other.

Upon entry to the stadium, spectators will be given a free beverage bottle which has a specially printed number on the side, which will be called out at the end of both days, so spectators are advised not to dispose of their bottles as it could bear the winning number.
