Bandar Seri Begawan - Ak Hafiy Tajuddin Pg Rositi, Mohd Yazid Yatimi bin Yusof and Abdul Haqim bin Hj Yahya departed from the Sultanate yesterday to compete in the Thailand Open Track & Field Championships from Nov 2-5 at the Thammasat University Sports Complex, Bangkok, Thailand.
The three-athlete contingent will be led by team manager, Pg Hj Khairil bin Pg Dato Paduka Hj Damit.
Olympian Rally will be competing in the 400m event, whilst Haqim will be taking part in the high jump. Yazid, meanwhile, will be taking on the task of both the shot-put and discus, having been absent from the international athletics scene due to a knee injury.
"I had a knee operation in 2010 and have been resting for the last two years," explained Yazid.
"My first competition this year was the Brunei Games, where I recorded a 13.29m throw in the shot-put," he added.
Yazid's personal best lies at 14.28m, but having only fully recovered from his injury just this year, Yazid, who was in contention to represent Brunei Darussalam at the Olympic Games in Beijing, has set a more realistic target for himself during this outing.
"I hope I can do well and break my season's best in Thailand."
