Opening of Asean School Games

Bandar Seri Begawan- The official opening of the 4' Asean School Games was held on Friday at Jatim expo, Surabaya, Indonesia. Present as an invited guest was the Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Yussoff bin Hj Ismail. Also present was the Brunei Ambassador to Indonesia, Dato Muhammad bin Saidin. The game was officiated by Bapak Andi Malarang, Youth and Athletics Minister. Brunei Darussalam is represented by some 116 athletes and officials led by chefde-mission and the Acting Director of Co-Curriculum Education Department, Pg Suhaimi bin Pg Hj Bakar.

Seven Asean countries with over 1,000 athletes will be competing in 11 games over nine days such as athletics, golf, sepak takraw, badminton, tennis, martial art, swimming, ping pong, basketball, gymnastics and volleyball.

Brunei will be competing in eight games excluding gymnastic, volleyball and basketball. The Deputy Minister of Education mingled with Brunei athletes and officials to motivate them.
