Bandar Seri Begawan - The Department of Co-Curriculum, Ministry of Education, will be hosting the Brunei Darussalam Primary Schools Sport Event for the third time from Nov 18-25 for those below 15-years-old.
A total of 14,825 participants will be competing in nine sports in all districts for this year's event. The sports are football, netball, sepak takraw, futsal, badminton, ping pong, mini marathon, chess and athletics.
The Education Officer, Head of Sports and Games Senior Co-Curriculum Education Department, Pengiran Haji Hassim who is also the Secretary of the Primary School Sport Event, said 151 schools will be taking part including 30 private schools.
"The format of the sport event has been changed this year. Instead of choosing the champion and the runner-up of one school for each sport, we decided to appoint few officers to develop the best team where the best player from each school is selected to team up together into one powerful team."
"This sport event is not only giving a chance to students and teachers to further diversify the sports that they are taking part but also the department will choose the best athletes for the national level where they will be trained from the beginning."
Members of the public are invited to attend the opening ceremony on Sunday (Nov 18) at the Hassanal Bolkiah Indoor Stadium. Attending the opening ceremony will be the guest-of-honour, Deputy Minister of Education, Data Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail.
