12 Schools For Inter-Scheme Fencing Meet

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Inter-Scheme Fencing Tournament organised by the Coaching and Sports Development Unit of Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports started at the Sungai Assam Sports Complex in Kg Sungai Kebun yesterday.

The tournament is a continuation of the Talent Identification Programme (TID) organised by the Coaching and Sports Development Unit of the Youth and Sports Department.

Twelve schools participated in the tournament - Sultan Mohammad Jamalul Alam (SMJA) Secondary School, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) College, Lambak Kiri Secondary School, PDS International School and St Andrews School representing Brunei Muara, Sixth Form Centre Tutong representing Tutong, Chung Ching Middle School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Secondary School, Sharif Ali Secondary School, Perdana Wazir Secondary School and Anthony Abel College representing Belait District.

Three categories were competed yesterday - Women Individual Sabre, Men Individual Epee and Women Individual Foil.

Wardatul Izzah bte Hj Ahmad Ranzuna (Brunei Muara) emerged champion of the Women Individual Sabre after defeating Norhaziqah bte Hj Zamri (Brunei Muara) in the final match.

Joint bronze medallists were Amal Nurul Afizah bte Asahrin (Brunei Muara) and Chai Mei Chen (Belait).

Awg Hj Zulkifli bin Hj Tengah, Youth and Sports Unit Head of the Belait District Youth and Sports Department presented the prizes to the winners.

The tournament will continue today at 8am for the Men Individual Sabre, Women Individual Epee and Men Individual Foil.

Sunday will see competition for the Team Sabre, Team Foil and Team Epee categories also starting at 8am.
