Bandar Seri Begawan - Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) presented $39,240 in donations to an organisation, mosques and recent fire victims in the country during a ceremony at the multipurpose hall of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Building Complex in the capital yesterday.
The donations, presented by YSHHB Managing Director cum chief guest Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, are in line in with Yayasan's vision to render help to the community.
A $5,040 donation was presented to sponsor the Inmates Academic Enhancing Programme from March 2013 to Sept 2014.
Fifteen local inmates at Maraburong Prison have been selected to join the programme. The '0' Level subjects included in the programme are Malay Language, Islamic Religious Knowledge, Malay Literature and Art. By obtaining at least 4 '0' Level, the inmates involved will gain confidence to further their studies to the next level or add to their qualification passes when they are released from prison.
The programme aims to create awareness on the importance of knowledge in life and becoming valuable and responsible citizens.
The donation was received by Haji Zainal bin Haji Ismail, the Acting Director of Prison, Prisons Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The second donation in the sum of $5,000 was presented to Persatuan Sepak Takraw Negara Brunei Darussalam (PESTABARU) to sponsor the National Regu Sepak Takraw Championship 2013, in the strive for the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy, which will be held in conjunction with National Day celebrations 2013.
Scheduled to be held in February, the championship aims to unite all sepak takraw players, and to unearth youths talented in the sport. It has become an annual event held in conjunction with the National Day celebrations.
On hand to receive the donation was PESTABARU President, Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan bin Pengiran Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abas.
The third donation amounting to $1,800 was presented to fire victims Hajah Norminah binti Haji Mahali and Haji Khairuni bin Haji Mahali. The donation aims to reduce the burden faced by the victims. The donation will continue to be handed out accordingly. Their Kampong Sungai Hanching home was gutted by fire on December 25, 2012.
Meanwhile, an overall total of $27,400 was donated to mosques, suraus and prayer halls nationwide to organise activities in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul 2013.
A total of 44 mosques, suraus and prayer halls received the donation. They comprised 16 mosques in the Brunei-Muara District with total donation amounting to $10,600; 17 mosques in the Tutong District with donations amounting to $10,600; four mosques in the Belait District ($2,300) and seven mosques in the Temburong District ($3,900). The donations were received by imams from the respective districts.
Also present at event were the YSHHB assistant managing directors, officers and staff.
The day concluded with a doa selamat read by Mosque Affairs Officer Haji Muhammad Mu'iz bin Haji Abd Razak.
