Bandar Seri Begawan - It has become the norm and tradition for muslims in the country to visit the cemeteries on the first of syawal. In the morning RTB's crew took a closer look at the practise at several muslim cemeteries in Bandar Seri Begawan. The roads going to the cemeteries have been congested since 9 in the morning. A number of parking areas were also filled to the capacity and there were also some individuals who have used the water taxi services in order to avoid the traffic congestion on the way to the cemeteries.

Visiting cemeteries is a noble practise as it is not only limited to the month of ramadhan or syawal but could also be carried out on normal days such as the weekends or even better, on Fridays. Islam teaches about the manners that need to be followed when visiting cemeteries. Among them, it is sunat or commendable to take ablution prior to visiting cemeteries as well as wear clean and proper clothes that covers the body according to Islam. It is also commendable to greet the departed before entering the cemetery. Apart from cleaning the cemetery site, muslims are also encouraged to read the tahlil and pray for blessings from Allah the Almighty for the departed and remember the hereafter. Visitors are also encouraged to recite the Surah Al-Ikhlas 11 times or read the Surah Yaasin and give the blessings received from the recitations or readings to the departed. At the end, visitors should pour scented water on the grave. It is also recommended to give alms and the blessings from the act, gifted to the departed.
