Bandar Seri Begawan - With the increasing number of cars in the country which has resulted in worsening traffic woes, the Ministry of Development is coming up with several measures besides constructing more roads.
Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, the Minister of Development, spoke on the sidelines of the official opening of the Sengkurong pedestrian overhead bridge.
In an interview, the Minister of Development said, "We are building more roads but I am not sure constructing more roads to accommodate the growing traffic is the answer. There has to be a few other measures too.
"At the moment, CSPS is conducting the study for Brunei Land Transport Master Plan which will also outline transportation problems or networks in the country. There are also other smaller studies conducted by other agencies. Hopefully, from the findings, we will be looking at the situation to make the roads more safe," he said.
"Some policies may have to be worked out and other strategies including upgrading the public transportation system might just be the answer," he said.
However, the minister said that ultimately it is the role of the road users on how they use the road and how much they want to avoid accidents.
