Bandar Seri Begawan - The teenage jogger who was hit by a car in Kg Jerudong and hospitalised on Saturday is doing all right, a spokesman for the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said yesterday.

The police spokesman dismissed rumours circulating that the 15-year-old had succumbed to his injuries, saying that he was still undergoing treatment in RIPAS Hospital as of yesterday.

"He's all right," the spokesman said, citing an investigating police officer on the case.

It was previously reported that the unidentified teen suffered a broken right leg after a 33-year-old male motorist, also unnamed, hit him with his vehicle while the teen was jogging near the five-kilometre mark of Jalan Jerudong. The jogger was allegedly wearing headphones as he tried to cross the four-lane road and the accident happened at about 4.15pm on Saturday, according to the RBPF. Unverified images circulated by users on smartphone applications such as WhatsApp had shown passer-bys surrounding an adolescent male in jogging attire face down on Jalan Jerudong, with a trail of what appears to be blood originating from his head.

Coincidentally, images of another man dressed in florescent sportswear about to be carried off by nurses in a stretcher and a neck brace, allegedly taken at a round-about near the Youth Development Centre in Kg Tanah Jambu, was circulated yesterday. Following Saturday's incident, there was immediate speculation that the man was a jogging victim.

However, the RBPF spokesman told The Brunei Times that the individual was a cyclist and not a jogger. The man was involved in what the spokesman described as a "normal accident", explaining that a car had clipped the cyclist.

Like Saturday's incident, the mishap involving the cyclist was "not a hit-and-run".

"It is now all okay and settled," the spokesman said of the accident involving the cyclist.
