Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei has been celebrating Teacher's Day every September 23, since 1991, since it was the birthday of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and declared the official date to celebrate Teacher's Day in Brunei. This is to appreciate the contribution of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien in the field of education, including religious education.
The Teacher's Day is celebrated to commemorate the contribution and dedication of teachers to society, race, religion and country.
In addition to that, the Teacher's Day celebration is also marked to honour and give special recognition to retired teachers, who have served the country by raising the image and status of the teaching profession.
In conjunction with Teacher's Day 2012, Taman Asuhan KanakKanak Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (TASKA) yesterday organised a celebration for the teachers at the school hall.
The ceremony started with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Teacher's Day prayer, led by Ustazah Noryashimah binti Hj Mohd Yassin. It was followed by the singing of 'Thank You Teacher' by all staff members.
After that, was several stage performances based on the fairy tales; "Sleeping Beauty", "Si Comel Bertudung Merah" and "Pinocchio" by the teachers and assistants teachers.
The event was attended by the grandson of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, YAM Pengiran Anak Abdul Hafeez bin YAM Pengiran Anak Khairul Khalil; and the granddaughter of HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Pengiran Qaiyimah Nurul Bolkiah binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad Hakimmuddin.
It was also attended by the School Principal, Cikgu Norbaini binti Haji Abdullah; and Assistant Principal, Cikgu Alimas bin Awang Haji Mohd.
The celebration is an annual co-curricular activity at TASKA.
The event was also held to foster better relations among the teachers and children.
