TAIB Hands Over $3,014,562 In Zakat Funds To MUIB

Bandar Seri Begawan - Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) handed over the Zakat (Tithe) payments to the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) amounting to $3,014,562.44 during a ceremony yesterday at the Religious Affairs Department.

Presenting a mock cheque on behalf of Perbadanan TAIB to the Minister of Religious Affairs cum President of MUIB, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman was its Acting Managing Director, Hajah Fa'aizah bte Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abidin.

Witnessing the handover was the Minister of Communications cum Chairman of Perbadanan TAIB's Board of Directors, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar.

The payments given were collected from 3,141 account holders from January to December 2012. The Zakat on saving (Zakat wang simpanan/harta) is an obligatory deed for all Muslims who reach the minimum `nisab' or more.

Perbadanan TAIB has provided various Zakat payment facilities in an effort to improve their customer service experience. With the support of a Zakat calculating application, payments can be made over the counter, via any of their ATMs nationwide or having a standing instruction that will automatically deduct the Zakat payments from their registered savings account.
