Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to call the members of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council to convene a Special Meeting of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council regarding the drafting of the Syariah Penal Code. It was held at Baitul Mesyuarah, Istana Nurul Iman.

Also attending the meeting was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

The meeting began with the recital of a doa selamat by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Awg Abdul Aziz bin Juned.

His Majesty's call to convene the Special Meeting of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council is a proactive measure taken by His Majesty as a follow-up to a number of meetings that were held last year.
