Kuala Belait - The Belait District experienced a sudden haze-like condition around 2pm yesterday. The condition however did not affect visibility as it started to fade in about an hour.
According to the meteorologist at the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Service, Department of Civil Aviation, there was no hotspot in the Belait District area at the time. However, referring to a satellite image, the 'haze' was transboundary as it travelled from neighbouring Sarawak to the western part of the Belait District.
The meteorologist added that the heavy downpour which occurred at the hotspot area from midday to around 2pm may have reduced the intensity of the condition.
Wan Julaini bin Wan Ibrahim, Assistant Superintendent of the Fire and Rescue Department and Public Relations, Prevention and Fire Inspection Officer of Operation 'B', also confirmed that there was no report received by the department regarding any forest fire in the past week and that the haze-like appearance may have been due to the frequent bouts of heavy rain in recent days.
