Bandar Seri Begawan - In conjunction with Brunei Darussalam's 29th National Day, Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah (Maktab Duli) yesterday held its first-ever cupcake decorating contest to commemorate and celebrate the joyous occasion.
The Student Learning Centre (SLC) of Maktab Duli yesterday showcased various delectable cupcakes that represented the national colours of Brunei Darussalam. The competition was focused on being able to present the pride of the National Day celebration with creative cupcake designs.
The sweet celebration saw students participating and displaying delectable cupcakes presenting the national colours with unique decoration to show their patriotism towards their country.
Noramalina binti Hj Mohd Yaakub and Hannas bin Sirat from AE13, displayed their impressive work and creativity by presenting the vibrant national colours and traditions through their decorations using the local handicrafts of tekiding, celapa and gangsa just to name a few.
In an interview, they said, "We are just happy and glad to be part of the competition to celebrate the national day. It increases our participation and creates a sense of excitement within this healthy competition between classes. It doesn't matter if we win or lose, it's how we are able to showcase and present our patriotism to the country through fun and exciting activities along with our friends.
"Through .this participation, it unites each and every one of us as classmates and further enhances our relationship with each other. The teamwork is there, everyone contributed their ideas and did their job really well. On behalf of our fallow friends, we would like to say that we are very proud to be Bruneians."
To further enliven the celebration, the Student Affairs Department of Maktab Duli also organised a patriotic classroom competition among all the classes to promote the spirit of patriotism among the younger Bruneian generation. The celebration yesterday saw classes being adorned with beautiful decoration of Brunei national flags on the boards, table, posters as well as information on the history of Brunei's National Day.
As stated by Cikgu Salawati, the reason for the classroom competition was to increase awareness on the importance of showing the students' patriotism towards their country as well as their dedication and commitment as citizens of Brunei Darussalam.
Towards the end of the celebration, students assembled at the school's auditorium and sang the national anthem prior to the prize presentation ceremony.
