Bandar Seri Begawan - Business School students and the Bruneian student-society of Sheffield University (Bru Sheff) collaborated yesterday to organise a fun-filled Hari Raya celebration with children of KACA (The Association of Handicapped Children) Brunei.
The celebration was held at the KACA Centre in Kiulap and was attended by some 30 KACA children, their parents and the Managing Director of KACA, Haji Awg Abdul Halim bin Haji Awg Othman; treasurer of KACA, Pengiran Haji Mohd Yassin bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad, and members of the organising committee.
In an opening address by Md Hibatul Habri - a Business School student - on behalf of the rest of the organisers, said the celebration was a way for them to reach out to society, especially children with special needs.
In an interview with the Bulletin, another student of the Business School, Dk Siti Nor Dinah Pg Haji Nordin, said that they wanted to create more awareness to other students in their school as well as the rest of the country regarding the importance of including special-needs children in celebrating the festive season, a view that was also shared by Nazrin-Narawi, a second-year undergraduate at the University of Sheffield.
Among the activities lined up for the children were a colouring contest and a game called 'Pass the Ball'. They were also feted with hampers and Hari Raya green packets before being treated to a Hari Raya feast.
The organising committee comprised 15 fifteen Bru Sheff members currently on holiday in the country and eight second-year Business School students undertaking a course in Business and Finance.
