Bandar Seri Begawan - The national anthem and an array of patriotic songs filled the corridors of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday during a flag-hoisting ceremony in the run up to the 29th National Day, a celebration that will be marked on February 23.

The flag-hoisting was witnessed at the Chancellor Hall compound, seeing Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education and UBD Vice Chancellor Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain bin Hj Hanafi as the guest of honour.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Vice Chancellor Associate Prof Dr Hajah Zohrah Hj Sulaiman, Assistant Vice Chancellor Dr Hjh Anita Binurul Zahrina binti POKLWDSS (Dr) Hj Awang Abd Aziz, UBD officials and students.

During the ceremony, Dean of Students Ahmad Faisal bin Hj Zainal Abidin presented the national flag to Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain, who then handed it over to Abd Azim from the Army Cadet. Subsequently, six army cadets hoisted the flag.

As the flag was raised, the national anthem was belted out, followed by the songs 'Tekad Kemerdekaan' and 'Berkibarlah Bendera.'

The ceremony was held to instil a strong sense of patriotism among UBD staff and students.
