Bandar Seri Begawan - Rimba II Secondary School (SMR II) recently held a Special Applied Programme Open Day for its students and their parents. The objective of the event was to allow parents and guardians to have a firsthand look at some of the educational activities done by students under the programme.

The guest of honour was the Dean of SHBIE, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Dr Jainatul Halida bte Haji Jaidin. The event was also attended by the school principal, Hjh Suriani bte Haji Noor Hashim, as well as the deputy principal of academics, Hjh Siti Khadijah bte Haji Damit.

The deputy principal, in her speech, explained that the school is implementing the Young Creative Thinkers Programme for students under the Special Applied Programme, which integrates 215 Century skills inside the teaching and learning process.

One of the projects under the programme was the 'Young Cartoonist' where the school invited specialists from the Language and Literature Bureau as well as from UBD to develop and expand students' artistic skills. During the course, the students were shown how to make their own unique comics which were then transformed into animation through the use of the 'Comic Life' and 'Adobe Aftereffect CS5 programme.

The event also saw a prize-giving ceremony whereby the guest of honour gave certificates to the students who had successfully attended the 18-week course.
