Bandar Seri Begawan - The "Skatedium" at Berakas Stadium, the first such skate park in Brunei Darussalam, was assessed by a group of 50 local extreme sports enthusiasts (skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMX riders) who were invited by the Brunei Skateboard Association (BSA) to provide feedback to make the park safer for the general public.
The skate park, which is not yet open to the public, was designed by Awang Azri Md Taha, the Secretary of BSA, who first started skateboarding at the age of 15 in 1993.
"With this skate park, the youths will be able to practise their skills so that they can compete in bigger competitions around the world, such as the X-Games in countries like Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand," Awang Azri told the Weekend Bulletin.
The official handing over of the park to BSA will be announced in the near future, and by then, the association will be offering one-month free registration to members of the public interested in extreme sports.
The President of BSA, Pg Haji Redzaimi Pg Hj Ahmad, was among those who oversaw the test-run of the park.
Any improvements that need to be made will be discussed with a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports at a later date.
