Bandar Seri Begawan - St George's School recently held a walkathon that saw the participation of enthusiastic parents, staff and students, some as young as eight years old.
The event aimed to raise funds for school facilities as well as the school's 'green' initiatives, with a percentage of the collection going towards a charitable organisation.
In his opening remarks, Principal Song Kin Fha expressed his gratitude to everyone who dug into their pockets to make a donation.
Aside from raising funds, the walkathon was the latest in a series of events held by the school to encourage students to regularly engage in sport activities.
The principal cited sports and regular exercise as an important contributing factor to a student's overall performance, as shown by research.
Prior to the walkathon, participants took part in a group warm-up session led by CCA Head Sheeba Nepoilan.
All participants walked an approximate distance of 5.5km, which started and ended at the Hockey Stadium.
By the end of the walkathon, cash prizes were awarded to the top three winners of various categories: Under-l2 Boys and Girls, Under-l5 Boys and Girls, Above-l5 Boys and Girls, and parents and guardians.
