Bandar Seri Begawan - An accident involving three vehicles along KM 71 of the Muara-Tutong Highway yesterday afternoon claimed the life of a 33-year-old Bruneian woman.
According to a spokesperson of the Royal Brunei Police Force, all three vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards Kuala Belait. It is believed that the accident occurred when a car on the right lane tried to avoid an overtaking car at around 1pm.
The drivers of the other vehicles involved in the accident and their passengers, meanwhile, sustained minor injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased woman's vehicle overturned and landed on its side after slamming into the roadside railings.
The woman was pinned under the roof of her car and passers-by helped pushed the car back in place.
Police and medical personnel arrived at the scene within seven minutes after receiving a distress call.
While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, passers-by helped to control the bleeding by applying pressure on the woman's bleeding wound. Three army personnel were also at the scene to render assistance.
The woman, who was travelling alone at the time of the incident, was pronounced dead by doctors at Tutong Hospital at around 2pm.
