Remand For Man Arrested Twice In Possession Of Drugs, Cash

Bandar Seri Begawan - A local man who had been arrested twice, with an even greater amount of suspected drugs and cash at the time of the second arrest, was preferred to a holding charge yesterday.

Ahmad bin Hj Mahmud was produced in court last week after being arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau officers under Section 22 (a) of the Misuse of Drugs Act and the court ordered further remand on the defendant for investigations.

Ahmad now faces possession of 57.07 grammes of Methylamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

Ahmad was arrested at about 1.25am on November 11, 2012 outside his car in Kg Bengkurong on suspicions of drug activities where he was found in possession of a bag containing approximately 50 grammes of crystalline substances believed to be Meth and approximately B$30,000 cash with two others who are now undergoing investigations.

The first arrest was made on October 30, 2012 with $11,000 and seven grammes of crystalline substances believed to be Meth in his possession.

The court fixed the case for further mention in two weeks' time and the defendant remanded at Jerudong Prison pending a bail application in the High Court.

DPP Suriana Radin also asked for time for the analyst certificate to be produced.
