Bandar Seri Begawan - In Commemorating World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, the Ministry of Communications with the cooperation of Baiduri Bank held a religious event at the Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah last night.
The guest of honour at the event was the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Awg Abd Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof who is also the Chairman of Brunei Darussalam National Road Safety Council. Also Present was the Deputy Commisioner of Police, Dato Seri Pahlawan Awg Bahrin bin Mohd Noon.
Mosque congregants performed a mass Maghrib prayer led by the Imam of the Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Pehin Khatib Hj Awang Suhaili bin Hj Metali Al-Hafiz.
The event continued with a Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil recital, followed by a mass Isyak prayer in remembrance of road traffic victims.
The event was also aimed at raising public awareness with regard to the large number of reckless and irresponsible drivers in the Sultanate who take no effort to exercise care and caution, and as a result, endanger the lives of others on a daily basis.
It was also held in response to a call from the United Nations Resolution forgovernment and non- government bodies to hold a special assembly in remembrance of road victims in the third week of November.
The Brunei Darussalam National Road Safety Council has organised similar activities aimed at raising the low-level of awareness on road safety.
